Hold firmly to the message of life. Then I can boast in the day of Christ that I didn’t run or labor for nothing. But even if I am poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. In the same way you should also be glad and rejoice with me. (Philippians 2:16-18 HCSB)
A great passage of scripture. I asked God about it, and this is what I sensed Him saying to me:
Letting go of the message of life is an easy, natural thing to do. This world approves those who let go, calling them sensible, logical, realistic, and even courageous. Yet I call them cowardly, foolish dreamers. If these think they can stand alone, it is only because of their self-delusion and their fear of love. True love can never be satisfied without knowing the beloved, yet to truly love is to give up the self. It is this giving up that the selfish and cowardly unbelievers fear above all else . . . the subjugation of the self with its wills and desires and demands. Yet the self is a tyrant that suffers none to rest; a dictator demanding constant feeding, nurturing and bolstering.
Those who abandon the self find freedom. This is the message of life — not that you should invest yourself in the cares of this world, to make it better by your mere human efforts, but that you should ABANDON yourselves — pour yourselves out — waste your lives on Jesus. Have nothing of your own — not even life. Live by the life of My Son.
