We read the story of the treasure hidden in a field and the pearl of great price and we (or at least, I) think of something external, but if the treasure is the Kingdom and the Kingdom is Christ, this is an internal treasure. I was in bed one morning, in that drowsy, dreamy time between sleep and waking, talking with God about a brother, praying for him, and I suddenly had a picture in my mind. In this picture I was crawling into a huge fir tree that was hollow at the base. I had been inside this tree, actually, at a state park. It was a live tree, though probably doomed to die before its time because of the rottenness inside.
In the picture in my mind, though, when I entered the tree I saw a golden treasure resting against the far side of the hollow. It was a small pile maybe two feet tall and about as wide, but irregularly shaped. The odd thing about this treasure was that it seemed somehow to have life in itself. It was a live treasure; growing and pulsating with power; but small. I can’t describe to you the intensity of the gold; how it glowed fiercely and sent out a warm feeling throughout the entire hollow. I wanted to stay and look at it always, but the picture faded quickly. It takes longer to tell than it did to see.
I asked God about it, but the things He said at that time were particularly about that brother I’d been praying for, so I won’t relate them. Several days later, however, He referred to it again, and that’s why I’m telling you about it. First, He gave me a poem:
Yes the fruit of My Spirit
Will drip from the vine
New wine so fine;
Its nature divine.
Never, no never failing to flow
This river of life; the water of life.
In the presence of Love,
All divisions must go,
Strivings must cease,
Quarrels must end.
Laughter and love
Ever after must reign;
Joy of the heart;
This is My goal and has always been so — paradise. My children are so easily driven off course. Because you are My children, made in My image, paradise and joy and love are your desires, however you see them. Some images of paradise are so perverted and flawed as to evoke outright horror in all but the most profoundly damaged of hearts, but you will note that even these damaged ones desire a form of joy, if only for themselves.
All desire the comfort of love. All long for acceptance and fulfillment. All wish to be filled, and not to be empty. Yet all do not desire to be filled with My Son. Alas for them, since nothing else can ever fill them.
That treasure you saw has been implanted into each of My children. The outer man has died, yet the dead, resistant shell impedes others from seeing what secret joy incubates within. Feed this implanted life. Feed it and it will grow and it will work its way out, destroying and consuming the dead hollow tree that conceals it.
Pour on it the food and drink offerings of the Spirit — the word, the worship, the communion of joy. You will be one Forest of divine trees, a safe and a sheltered place for dwelling in, a living and an ancient place so fraught with potent life that all who enter will sense it and be consumed by it, whether to ultimate renewal or to ultimate destruction. A place of living trees, living waters, living stones — All of you formed into one great and magnificent living temple.
O, leave behind this world of man and become one with the world of the Spirit — the world that IS My Son – vast, magnificent, ever growing, ever becoming more glorious, ever revealing more and more of Him. Wild, verdant, exploding into greater and greater glory and complexity — this and so much more are your destiny, O My Beloved.
I do not mean that you should experience a small part or be a small part of this, My Beloved, but that you, as one with My Son, with My vast and glorious Son, should with and in Him, both be and experience it all, in all its magnificence and all of its eternally expanding, never ending, never ceasing, never slowing explosion of wonder and beauty, truth, all virtue, all Love.
This is My destination for you, and it is not a fixed destination. It is a destination which you have attained, will attain, and will always be attaining and ever pursuing. While there is no end to the pursuing, there is also no end to the desiring and to the satisfaction of desire. You, entering into this dance, die to all else but the dance and so enter into all life through the common gateway — that gateway of death to self and life toward Christ Who alone is all LIFE. Dead to the kingdom of death, of self and selfishness, self-consciousness, of self seeking and even self denial; of all things “self,” you so enter into the Kingdom of Life eternal, corporate, beautiful.
To you it may seem that many experience anonymity that One may experience glory — yet this is not the case at all. All experience oneness and thereby all experience all joy and glory — all rest and peace — all joy and laughter as ONE.
