A friend wanted me to read a popular Christian book. I wanted to be fair, but I was not liking what the author had to say. It seemed heavy on works-based salvation. Here’s a conversation I had with the Lord concerning this. It isn’t a review of the book, but more an encouragement to listen to our spirits.
I said: “Lord, I want to give this book a fair chance; my friend is so excited about it. I don’t want to hurt her. Please help me to see this book through Your eyes. I admit I’m prejudiced against it because of having heard this person and reading part of one of his earlier works.
This is the response I sensed from Him. As always, you be the judge of whether this is a true word from God. I’m sure there are at least bits of me in pretty much everything I write in my journal, but it’s my sincere goal to present Him in as pure form as I’m mature enough to do.
Don’t worry about reading this with an unbiased eye. I have given you discernment and you can test the spirits to see if they are of Me. Your misgivings should never be disregarded for “fairness'” sake. You’ve done that before, remember? How, when I’ve given you warning, will you be delivered thereby if you disregard it? Be humble and don’t mock those who are also My children, even though they may be a little off balance.
Regarding works, you need not struggle to get into Christ. I have already placed you there. But you may have a struggle to disentangle yourselves from the things of the world. Labor, yes, to enter into My rest. Study to show yourselves approved; workmen who need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. This is your struggle; to reckon as true that which is true; that you indeed are dead to the world.
Set your MINDS — set your minds on things above, not on things of this world. If you will set your mind on the things above, you will not follow the thought patterns of this world. That is your work. That is your labor — to alter the patterns of the thoughts of your heart.
Do you not know? Have you not seen? The everlasting God, the creator of the world never faints nor is weary. Enter then into My rest. You are like Me in this: I created you for love, and love is what I am. What I am, you need and are becoming as I form you into the image of My Son. My Son is the express image of Me — therefore if you look like Him, act like Him, are conformed to His image, it is My image you express.
And you are like Me in this also: You are a spirit expressed by a body animated by life — that is, by your soul, which is of Me and which returns to Me. I am Spirit, expressed by My Son through the Life which is in Him; the Holy Spirit.
You are becoming in time and already ARE in eternity, the express image of My Son. This is how you can rightly be called holy and justified. But take care lest you fall into the trap of thinking of yourselves along natural lines. You are My children, and no longer of this world. Get in this mindset of the Spirit. You breathe physically in this world, but your life — your LIFE is in Me.
Keep this foremost in your thoughts and I will change you with it. Your life is not a natural, but a supernatural one. The life of animals and unsaved humans is a natural life, but the life of My sons and My daughters is not a natural life. This light that shines in you is eternal life.
