The earth trembles under three things; it cannot bear up under four: a servant when he becomes king, a fool when he is stuffed with food, an unloved woman when she marries, and a servant girl when she ousts her queen. (Proverbs 30:21-23 HCSB)
Still following the same line of thought as in my last couple of journal entries/posts, here is what I received from God next:
Letting the flesh rule over you is not only bad for the spirit; it’s not even a good thing for the flesh. It wants what is not good for it, whether instant gratification in food or other pleasures. Given enough time, these pleasures cease to even be pleasant or to provide any but the mere memory of a pleasure long robbed of any enjoyment. You are left with an engorged flesh that can no longer enjoy the very pleasures it still craves, and that so rules and keeps down the spirit that true, pure pleasure is not even seen as desirable, but as unsophisticated and “for babies.”
Lord, what is the remedy for this in my life?
Jordan — the river of baptism, symbol of death. You must put the deeds of the flesh to death by the Spirit of God living in you. No one who is a slave to the flesh can be greatly used of the Spirit, so if it truly is your desire to be used in this way, you must, in Me, gain the upper hand with your flesh.
Fast as I lead you to do or you will find the determined and unruly flesh creeping back up to rule. You must be ruled by the Spirit and not succumb to the lusts of the flesh.
